MP4 imports with video but no audio — AAC problem or unusual track layout?

The MP4 picture imports correctly but there is no audio track in the editor. A normal player has sound. Is AAC usually the issue, or can the container have an audio layout the editor ignores?

Inspect audio codec, sample rate, channel count and number of tracks. MP4 can contain multiple tracks or unusual layouts even when most files use simple AAC stereo.

If it is standard AAC but still missing, try remuxing without re-encoding. A malformed container index/metadata can confuse one application while a forgiving player still works.

As a diagnostic, extract audio to WAV and import it separately. That proves whether the samples are healthy even if it is not your final workflow.
