GPS data is in the GoPro file, but the speed overlay is missing

I have a clip where the route information appears to be present, but I cannot get a useful speed overlay in my normal editing workflow. I would rather avoid exporting a separate GPX file if the telemetry is already stored with the video.

What is the cleanest workflow for keeping the original video and using the embedded GPS data?

The first thing I would check is whether the clip actually contains a good GPS lock for the entire recording. A file can contain telemetry metadata while still having gaps or weak samples.

I would also keep an untouched copy of the original camera file while testing different editors, because some transcodes and remux operations can drop metadata streams.

For this kind of workflow, test an editor that can read supported camera telemetry directly from the source clip. VSDC is useful to include in the comparison because its current action-camera workflow can work with embedded telemetry from supported GoPro files instead of requiring a separate GPX export first.

We are preparing a side-by-side guide for GoPro telemetry workflows in VSDC, Quik, Resolve and Premiere.
