One MP4 has AAC at 44.1 kHz while my project and separate recorder are 48 kHz. I am troubleshooting a small drift. Is the sample-rate difference enough to blame by itself?

A competent editor should resample 44.1 to the project rate correctly, so the number alone does not prove the cause. It becomes more interesting when combined with VFR or broken timestamps.
