OBS MP4 recording is in sync in a player but drifts after editing

Question

A long OBS tutorial plays in sync outside the editor, but after I start cutting it the narration slowly shifts. What capture details should I inspect before blaming the NLE?

Start with frame timing. Screen recording under load can produce variable or irregular pacing even when a forgiving player looks fine.

For future sessions, consider recording to MKV and remuxing to MP4 afterward if your workflow allows it. That reduces the risk of losing the whole recording if capture is interrupted.

For the existing file, inspect VFR/timestamps and test a constant-frame-rate conversion of a representative segment. If it stays synced after several cuts, you have a reproducible repair path.
