Why does Log footage look washed out before grading?

I switched an action camera to a Log/flat profile and the first thing I noticed was lower contrast and saturation. The file looks worse than the normal profile until I process it.

Is that expected, and what is the simplest way to get a normal SDR result?

Yes, a flat/Log recording is not supposed to look finished straight from the camera. The important part is using the correct transform or grading workflow rather than trying to 'fix' it with random contrast and saturation values.

We will publish two workflows for this: a fast automatic/managed conversion for users who want a normal result, and a manual grading path for users who want maximum control.
