With underwater action I want exposure changes to look smooth across a sequence, not like every clip came from a different camera.
How would you approach auto exposure versus more controlled settings when light changes quickly underwater?

I would lock as much as practical once the lighting is stable, but allow enough flexibility that the camera does not underexpose badly during depth changes.

That balance is what I am after. I care more about matching a sequence than chasing maximum brightness in every individual shot.
