I want to keep the option of adding speed, route and other telemetry later. My normal habit is to transcode camera files immediately to an easier editing format.

For HERO13 Black footage, which original files should I keep if I care about GPS/GPMF metadata and not just the picture?

Keep the original camera MP4s until the project is finished. A transcode can preserve video and audio while dropping auxiliary metadata tracks.

That is the workflow we recommend for telemetry projects: archive the untouched source, test metadata support before conversion, and only then decide whether an intermediate format is needed.

Makes sense. I am going to treat the original MP4 as the telemetry master even if I edit from proxies.
