Long recordings arrive as multiple camera files. I want one continuous edit, but I also want to preserve the original GPS/IMU data for overlays later.
What should I avoid when joining or converting the chapter files?

My rule would be: do not make the first step a generic transcode if telemetry is important. Work from copies of the original chapters and verify the metadata after each join/remux step.

Exactly. We will publish a test matrix showing which common join/edit workflows preserve camera metadata and which ones flatten the file into video/audio only. For now, archive the original chapters unchanged.
